Portasol Biological Reserve
At one of the highest points in our eco-development, we left 70 hectares (close to 200 acres) of 100% primary forest. What does that mean? This is a virgin forest that has never been touched by humans.
The biological reserve comprises 13% of Portasol’s total land and protects the humid tropical forest, the micro-watershed of Astúa Creek, and hundreds of animals. It is legally registered as a private reserve, and we are active members of Costa Rica’s Private Reserves Network.
Portasol’s biological reserve connects to the Danta Biological Corridor that links the Manuel Antonio and Corcovado national parks and the Savegre River UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. According to field studies conducted with our camera trap monitoring network, inventories of flora and fauna of our reserve resemble those found in the Osa Peninsula.
